There is always something inherently romantic about a winter wedding in Warwickshire, but when you combine a crisp, dry February day with the magic of Valentine's Day, you have the recipe for something truly special. On February 14th, 2026, we had the absolute pleasure of capturing Stacey and Jack's beautiful wedding at The Saxon Mill in Warwick, one of the most picturesque riverside wedding venues in the West Midlands.

Looking at Stacey and Jack together, the depth of love between them is impossible to miss. Yet, as with many of the best love stories, theirs did not come without its challenges. Jack, being the younger of the two, had to work hard to win Stacey's heart — and it is a testament to his persistence and ultimately to the strength of what they found together that they stood side by side on Valentine's Day exchanging vows. It is the kind of story that makes you smile, and it gave the whole day an extra layer of meaning.

For us at SimplyGreatShots Photography, returning to The Saxon Mill always feels like coming home. Having celebrated our own wedding here back in July 2008, we know first-hand just how magical this venue is. Nestled on the banks of the River Avon, this historic former watermill — with its exposed beams, rustic charm, and stunning views of the mill stream — provides an idyllic and deeply atmospheric backdrop for a wedding. If you are looking for a unique Warwickshire wedding venue with character, Stacey and Jack's day proves exactly why The Saxon Mill is such a wonderful choice.

The Perfect Setting for Winter Wedding Photography

Despite the February chill, the weather was kind to us. It was a cold but predominantly dry day, allowing for some beautiful, crisp outdoor wedding portraits by the iconic mill stream and the wooden footbridge. As experienced Warwickshire wedding photographers, we know how to make the most of the winter light. The evening shots, in particular, captured the romantic, cosy essence of a winter celebration, with the couple sharing a quiet moment together against the dramatic, softly lit backdrop of the venue's exterior.

The day unfolded perfectly within the venue's classic layout. The civil ceremony took place upstairs in the elegant Warwick Suite. Stacey looked absolutely breathtaking as she walked down the aisle in a pure white, classic off-the-shoulder gown featuring a beautifully structured built-in bodice — elegant in its simplicity and utterly timeless. The dress was perfectly complemented by a classic veil and delicate pearl accessories. A beautiful detail we loved capturing was her elegant Jimmy Choo bridal shoes, adorned with sparkling crystal buckles — a touch of glamour that perfectly finished her bridal look.

Adding an incredibly sweet and personal touch to the proceedings were the couple's two younger boys, who took on the important role of page boys, making the ceremony all the more meaningful for the whole family.

A Family Affair

Family was at the very heart of this wedding. Jack, in particular, comes from a wonderfully large family, and it was clear from the moment guests arrived that this was a celebration steeped in togetherness. Extended family members had gathered from near and far to witness and share in the day, filling the room with a warmth and energy that was truly infectious. There is something deeply moving about seeing a large family come together with such joy, and it made for some of our favourite photographs of the entire day.

One of the most charming moments came after the ceremony, when the couple were showered in confetti — but not by the adults. In a wonderfully spontaneous and joyful touch, it was the young children of the family who took charge of the confetti, their laughter and excitement perfectly capturing the spirit of the occasion. It was the kind of unscripted moment that makes wedding photography so rewarding.

A Seamless Celebration

Following the ceremony, guests made their way downstairs to the cosy, inviting bar area. This seamless transition is one of the things we love most about The Saxon Mill. While guests enjoyed drinks and mingling in the warm, historic pub setting, the upstairs room was expertly turned around for the wedding reception meal.

The reception was filled with warmth, laughter, and evident joy. The room was dressed beautifully, with red roses taking centre stage throughout – adorning the table decorations and woven into lush wreaths that brought a rich, romantic colour to the rustic surroundings. It was, after all, Valentine's Day, and the décor embraced that fully. The deep crimson of the roses against the warm, candlelit tones of The Saxon Mill's interior created an atmosphere that was both intimate and utterly fitting for the occasion. The speeches were a perfect blend of heartfelt emotion and side-splitting laughter. Stacey's father delivered a wonderfully warm address, stepping up with great love and pride on what was a day tinged with both joy and sentimentality.

Jack himself spoke with evident feeling, and it was clear just how much this day — and his new wife — meant to him. In a deeply touching moment, every guest was handed a complimentary shot of the groom's father's favourite tipple, and together the room raised a glass in a heartfelt toast to absent friends. It was a gesture that perfectly captured the spirit of the day — honouring those who could not be there in person, whilst celebrating with those who could.

But it was Stacey who truly brought the house down. In what was undoubtedly the comedic highlight of the entire day, she took to the microphone and had every single guest in stitches with a perfectly observed observation about her new husband. Jack, a builder by trade, is apparently never short of the very best tools money can buy — no expense spared when it comes to equipping himself for the job. The problem, Stacey gleefully pointed out to a room full of howling laughter, is that getting him to actually finish any jobs around the house is quite another matter entirely. It was the kind of speech that only a bride who truly knows and adores her husband could deliver — warm, wickedly funny, and absolutely spot on.

The Cake, the Chaos, and the Laughter

No wedding is complete without a cake cutting moment, but Stacey and Jack's was one for the ages. In a wonderfully heartfelt touch, the wedding cake had been lovingly made by Grandma herself — a gesture that spoke volumes about the close-knit family spirit running through the entire day. As the couple stepped forward to make the ceremonial first cut, the top tier had other ideas entirely, tumbling off in spectacular fashion to the absolute delight of everyone in the room. The eruption of laughter that followed was one of those perfect, unplanned moments that no amount of careful planning could ever replicate — and one that will undoubtedly be retold with great affection for years to come.

As the evening drew in, the celebration truly came alive. From the lively toasts – glasses raised high across a room full of smiling faces – to the joyful, candid moments shared between the newlyweds, every part of the day felt intimate and full of love. The sheer number of family members present only added to the sense of occasion, creating a rich tapestry of moments, big and small, for us to capture in our signature documentary wedding photography style.

Stacey and Jack's Valentine's Day wedding was a beautiful reminder of why we love what we do. To photograph such genuine emotion, surrounded by so much family love, in a venue that holds such personal significance for us was an absolute privilege.

When we eventually packed up and headed home, the party was showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. By all accounts, Stacey, Jack, and their wonderful guests danced and celebrated well into the small hours — which, for a Valentine's Day wedding surrounded by so much love and laughter, felt entirely as it should be.

Congratulations again to Stacey and Jack — and to the wonderful family that made this day so very special. We wish you all a lifetime of happiness together.
