February is traditionally the month that The Guild of Photographers Ceremony takes place.
This year there was a change of venue for the awards evening, with the event being hosted at the wonderful Doubletree by Hilton, Stoke-on-Trent.
Whilst the overall event starts on Friday where there are numerous workshops you can attend, which are ran by fantastic photographers offering their expertise on specific techniques or genres of photography, and Trade partners attend displaying their latest products and offering the latest deals, but without doubt the highlight of the weekend is the formal awards evening itself on the Saturday night.
The awards evening itself is a three course dinner followed by the main event, where the winning photographers of the year in various photography categories are announced.
Those categories are listed below.
- The Founder Cup
- Avant Garde & Contemporary Portraiture

In addition to the above categories the Guild also announce the names of those photographers that have achieved the Photographers Bar for 2022.
In the Guild of Photographers own words:
“Becoming a member of the Photographer’s Bar is a unique distinction awarded to those photographers who have had images assessed by the Guild via the Image of the Month competition over the course of the competition year, attaining a score the equivalent of a point for each entry made.
In other words, any member who can secure 24 points in one section of the Photography of the Year Title chases from 24 images entered in that section from any 8 months of the same competition will be awarded honorary life membership of the ‘Photographer’s Bar’ in order to acknowledge the fact they have submitted strong images consistently throughout the year in a competition judged in accordance with national scoring criteria - a distinction that is very difficult to achieve!”
2022 was a great year for SimplyGreatShots Photography with both Monima and Carl achieving the Photographers Bar.
This is testament that as professional photographers they are looking to continually improve to ensure the images they produce are of an extremely high standard.
They were also nominated as 2022 Image of the Year finalists in the following genres.
